Who Has Access to My Courses? Can I Manage Which Users Has Access to Which Course?

Short answer

All courses you create will be private to your organization. Only users within your  organization group on Corsmed can be given permission to access your courses.

Within a Corsmed organization group, users can be given one of two roles with different permissions.

  1. Teacher: The user has full permission to manage all students and courses. Teachers can also monitor all students’ course progress, how they use Corsmed’s simulator, and view all scans they perform.
  2. Student: The user is only able to use the simulator and take courses that have been assigned to them by a teacher.

All Teachers Can Manage All Courses and Modules

If you create a new course or course module, all other teacher users will be able to access and collaborate with you on that course content – as well as grading the assignments that students submit on the course modules.

Students Must Be Given Explicit Access To a Course

Even if a course module is published, students won’t be able to access it unless you explicitly give them access to the main course that module is part of.

To give students access to a course:

  1. Go to the “Manage Courses” tab.
  2. Click on “Edit user access” button in the top-right corner of the course you want to manage.

This will open a popup window where you can view all users in your organization. Then:

  1. Select which students you want to give access to the course.
  2. Once the right users are selected, click on the “Edit” button in the bottom-right corner to edit the access for these users.

Once you click on “Edit”, a new window will open up. This is where you explicitly set their access to “Yes” for this course.

You can also set a custom dates for when their course access should start and end. If no dates are set, students can start access the course immediately, with no end date.

Finally, click on “Save changes”. The selected users will now be able to access the course.

How to Create Different Student Cohorts

You may want to group students into different cohorts to make it easier to select and manage entire groups of students.

For example, you may want to create cohorts for:

  • Different periods of the year, such as “Spring”, “Fall”, “April”, etc.
  • Different types of programs or program levels, such as “Cardiac”, “Intro”, “Advanced”, “Residents”, etc.

Contact the Corsmed team, and we will set up the cohorts you need.
